Muay Thai Kickboxing

Dragon’s Den Elite in Surrey-White Rock is the only gym where you will find a former fighters and champions as instructors.  Our classes are taught by passionate professionals, eager to introduce beginners like yourself into their first day of training right away.

With many male and female beginners starting their first class daily, DEMA is the best beginner-friendly Muay Thai -Kickboxing club in the Surrey-White Rock area.

Easy and quick to learn for beginners, Muay Thai Kickboxing is a total body and cardio workout that will develop your kicks, punches, knees, and elbows into a completely efficient striking system. It is the ultimate style to develop self-defence skills and confidence, while also inducing healthy weight loss and fitness.

A practitioner of Muay Thai Kickboxing thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight “points of contact,” as opposed to “two points” (fists) in boxing and “four points” (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts. Muay Thai is an especially versatile, brutal, straightforward martial art. With the success of Muay Thai and Kickboxing in mixed martial arts fighting, it has become the de facto martial art of choice for competitive stand-up fighters.

As a result, it has evolved and incorporated much more powerful hand striking techniques used in western style boxing. Worldwide, Muay Thai Kickboxing has been very effective in mixed martial arts fights. Mixed martial artists such as Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo have combined many striking elements of Muay Thai Kickboxing with grappling, submission, and choking elements from Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, or into a hybrid synthesis that has been highly effective in defeating practitioners of “pure” martial arts.

No-Gi Jiu Jitsu

Dragon’s Den NO-Gi Jiu Jitsu prides itself in having superb instruction for everyone interested in the grappling aspect of martial training. Our main focus at the Den’s NO-GI are grappling methods and strategies from Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Freestyle Wrestling.

No Gi (pronounced no ghee) Jiu Jitsu derives from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ, which was brought to Brazil in the early 20th century from the Japanese martial art of Kodokan Judo, which was called Jiu Jitsu before a name change to Judo. No Gi Jiu Jitsu is a combat sport, martial art, and efficient, effective self-defense system that focuses on ground fighting. The objective is to neutralize and control a much larger opponent with leverage and technique, rather than strength.

In addition to incredibly reliable self-defense, as well as the mental exercise offered, the body workout BJJ gives you is unreal. You will experience increased stamina and improved body tone. It is truly a complete self-defense system and fitness program ‘rolled’ into one. Dragon’s Den NO-Gi Jiu Jitsu believes that there is no technique too simple or too difficult for ANY student to practice.

The beautiful thing about NO-Gi Jiu JItsu is that there is no pre-requisite course for anyone to have in order the start training. While it may seem intimidating to enter a class where students have existing knowledge of the course material, that is what makes it so easy to learn! Every student at the Den is also an instructor in the sense that they are all expected to help out those with less experience and they are always happy to do so.

Our teaching methods guarantee that those focused on NO- Gi Jiu Jitsu or MMA training can rely on said muscle memory instincts in the various applications specific to self-defense, competitions, MMA, or just plain, simple in the gym fun – instincts that are not training clothes specific.

What does “NO-Gi” mean?

NO-Gi refers to the removal of the traditional gi uniform. NO-Gi is seen as a more practical use for mixed martial arts (MMA) as one does not need to rely on gripping the lapel, sleeve or belt, as is the norm in traditional Jiu-Jitsu. NO-Gi Jiu Jitsu is also an effective addition to the street self defense arsenal when NO-Gi GAP tactics are implemented. NO-Gi GAP tactics are the first training strategies learned thus you will learn effective and useful skills on your very first session!

Monday: 8:00pm – 9:00pm
Wednesday:  8:00pm – 9:00pm

The very best instruction to all of our students guaranteed because of what our competition team has proven in the competitive arena.

FILES Magazine, NOW Newspaper and PEACE Arch News awards for the best in martial instruction.

To our valued Dragon’s Den Elite family,

Dr. Bonnie stated today that the government was unable to figure out the guidelines for Martial Arts to re-open this coming Monday. ☹️ Maybe it would have been a prudent for her to have seen how we’ve done our safety protocols since June. As a result she has shut us down for yet another week. 🤬 She stated that we have a number of good plans in place (submitted by businesses over the past few weeks). But to be safe based on the numbers announced today, we need to stay closed for another week while they develop current guidelines for us (and everyone else) to re-open. We are so sorry to everyone that look forward to the classes and programs we provide. If the closure goes beyond the next week we are working on a contingency (albeit a limited one). This next week will be used to develop the contingency plan in the likelihood the closure goes beyond what the government has ordered. Stay tuned.

Effective Tuesday November 24th,2020.
💥 💥 💥

To our valued Martial arts family. We have been forced by the Provincial government and Fraser health to suspend all operations at Dragon’s Den Elite Combat Sports. The reason is because the government thus far has been unable to develop protocols for everyone to follow. This is NOT a health related closure. In my communications with Fraser Health, other instructors and with our legal team, I have been told that there is mass confusion for covid safety fitness and return to sport protocols and that it is being worked on as we speak. The earliest we could be back in providing what we’ve been doing since June (for covid safety) is thursday and if not we will inform you of an approximate date. Any further news or updates will be emailed and posted on facebook, our website or instagram social media platforms. We are doing everything we can to stay open but it’s not for lack of trying. The protocols the government will put in place will probably be less then what we have now. We are ready to go as soon as the provincial health authorities figure things out. Please watch for further updates either on cable or social media and let us know if there is something that can assist us (in case we’ve missed it.) We are so grateful for your continued support and patience while we (yet again) go through another round of closures.

✅ The Time Has Come Yet Again! ✅

New restrictions have come down from the Provincial Health Office 😷 and Dragon’s Den Elite Combat Sports is quickly adapting to the changes in order to keep our members and our community safe. We have always led by example from an earlier initial closure back in March to mandatory masks during indoor training sessions in June. Based on thursday afternoon's announcement, martial arts clubs are able to stay open
but must obey the new rules currently set in place. Below are the new restrictions put forth by the province, 👍

• Indoor sports can continue but everyone MUST maintain physical distance.
• Masks MUST be worn when entering, training and leaving the facility
• Athletes can shadow box, skip, hit the bag and train solo ground drills within designated “training pads” but cannot participate in high intensity interval training.
• No spectators are allowed at any times
• There is absolutely NO sparring or focus mitt work allowed during this phase of sport combatives. 🥊

•All classes and programs will resume at their regular times as of Tuesday, November 24th‼️

I am pleased that we are able to adhere to the above mentioned rules in order to keep our facility operational and our athletes can continue with their technical and knowledge based training.

Dragon’s Den Elite isn’t just some place where we kick, punch and roll around with each other. The real value of our facility (for all of our team) is that we help support physical and mental health for the community at large. It’s always been part of our identity since the first day we opened our doors in 1990. It’s an extension of our family, livelihood and personal character. Facilities like ours (and many like us) are teaching others in our community how to improve their lives, their health and in helping to create more caring, responsible and selfless individuals. We are a very tight knit group (like family) who support each other through thick and thin inside and outside of the gym walls. We have each others back and have created our own culture and it’s a large reason why Dragon’s Den Elite has been so successful over the past three decades. We will do everything we can to keep it that way. We are in this together and we can’t thank our team and recreational members enough. To all of you continued love, respect and appreciation. 🙏
